Reservation

Do I have to make a reservation?

Yes, all cruises need to be booked in advance. We have room for a maximum of 10 guests on board. When booking you must agree with our booking terms, provided on this page as they provide the basis of the agreement between us. An agreement with us will come into effect when we send out our confirmation email to the person(s) responsible for making the booking. Dutch Law will apply to the agreement and it is agreed that any claim or dispute in the contract must be settle  in the Courts of the Netherlands. Changes made to the booking terms will only be valid if agreed to by us. The person(s) in the booking must be at least 18 years old at the time of the cruise, except when agreed to by us.

Can I take an option?

Yes, of course. Please contact us.

How do I change my reservation?

It is your responsibility to notify us of any changes to confirmed bookings as soon as possible. We will not charge any administration fees for name changes. 

What is the cancellation policy?

We make every effort to serve our guests in the best possible way. We also strongly advise all guests to purchase traveler’s insurance in case of interruption, accidents, illness or anything else that may occur. If a reservation has to be cancelled, customers will be charged a fee depending on how far from the departure date the cancellation takes place.

  • 30 or more days prior to departure – 25% of total purchase amount
  • 7-29 days prior to departure – 50% of total purchase amount
  • 4-6 days prior to departure – 75% of total purchase amount
  • Within 3 days prior to departure – 100% of total purchase amount
  • Day of departure or no-show – 100% of total purchase amount

Regarding missed/cancelled flights, we are not liable for any incidence that may occur that can interfere with your booking with us and will not refund monies for any missed/canceled flights. Any arrangements or compensation in the event of a delay or cancellation will be at the sole discretion of the airline you booked with or your personal travel insurer.
Although we strive to avoid cancellations, sometimes they are unavoidable and we must reserve the right to do so. We will notify you of any cancellations as soon as possible before departure and you will have the choice to:

  • accept the altered arrangements,
  • book alternative arrangements from us of a similar standard to the original booking if available, we will always refund the difference in price if replacement holiday is of a lower standard and price, or
  • accept the cancellation and receive a full and quick refund of all monies you have paid to us.

Unfortunately we will not be liable for failure to perform its obligations stated in the booking terms or pay any compensation if such failure is as a result of “force majeure”. For the purpose of these booking terms, “force majeure” will be deemed to mean any event we as the supplier of the service could not avoid or foresee, such as nuclear disasters, civil strife, terrorist activity, industrial dispute, fire, flood, earthquake, storm, hurricane or other similar natural disasters out of our control.

Do you have discounts for children?

Children 1-9 year old receive 50% discount on the board cash. Children 10-15 year old receive 25% discount on the board cash

Payment

What is the total price?

The total price of your cruise consists of the following items:

  • Bareboat charter
  • Crew
  • Board Cash

Just add your flight to Rome, drinks, excursions and expenses on shore.

When do I pay?

25% of the sum for the bareboat is due at time of booking. Your selected travel arrangements are not confirmed until you have paid for this deposit. Together with this confirmation you will receive an invoice. The remainder of the invoice for the bareboat is to be paid 6 weeks prior the cruise. Price is including Italian VAT of 22%.

The invoice for the crew will come from the crew management company and is to be paid 6 weeks prior the cruise. No deposit is needed.

The skipper will contact you for details on the board cash.

What is a Board Cash?

The Board Cash includes: Transfers from the airport to the ship and back, full board based on Mediterranean cuisine, linnen, towels, cleaning, fuel, port charges and local taxes.

How does the Running Tab work?

We realize that not everyone consumes the same. Therefore, to keep things fair, all drinks, except the drinks that are “on the skipper”, are put on a running tab on your shipboard account, which you need to settle in cash before you disembark. Water, coffee and tea are free. Other drinks are very reasonably priced:

  • Soft drinks are € 1,-
  • Wine and beer are € 2,-
  • Spirits are € 3,-

It is not permitted to bring shore-purchased drinks for consumption aboard.

How about gratuity?

As customary during cruises, at the end of the cruise when you settle your shipboard account, we would appreciate if you would include gratuity for the crew. We suggest between 10 and 18 percent of your total sum. Please keep in mind that at the end of the day, these aren’t really tips — they are meant to compensate the entire crew for their efforts during long hours to make sure you have the vacation with memories that last a lifetime. If you have questions about gratuity, please ask the skipper.

Should I print a receipt to show to the skipper?

No, that won’t be necessary. The skipper knows that you will join the cruise.

Preparation

What do I need to bring?

Please remember that on a boat there is limited space to stow suitcases onboard. Use a back pack or bring a large bag with you instead of a rolling case. In any season we suggest to bring a sweater, a pair of long trousers, comfortable boat shoes or sneakers (with light soles) and a waterproof jacket, because the nights on the Mediterranean Sea can be chilly sometimes. For spring, summer and autumn you can also bring swim wear if you want. Do not forget to bring sunglasses and sun protection with you.

Is it possible to sleep on deck?

Yes, sleeping under the stars is a great experience!

Is insurance mandatory?

It is a fundamental requirement that everyone using our services has a personal travel insurance policy. It is your responsibility to buy personal travel insurance and cancellation insurance if you wish. It should cover adventurous activities such as sailing. By booking, you agree that you will have comprehensive travel insurance for the duration of your trip. If you want assistance with finding insurance, please contact us.

I have medical issues, what must I do?

We are sorry to hear if you have any medical problems. If your medical condition could affect the sailing cruise, you must inform us prior to departure. We ask you to consult with your doctor to ensure you are physically fit and able to undertake a sailing journey with us. You must inform us prior to departure if you or any members of your party suffer from any medical condition which could affect your holiday. You must keep any medication you may require with you at all times. You must also advise us in writing of any special requests at the time of making your booking and we will endeavour to meet those when we can. Please bring along an auto-injector if necessary.

It's a sailing cruise, will I get sea sick?

The vast majority of our guests do not get sea sick on board, as it is a stable, big ship. But, there are many factors that can contribute to not feeling well. If you have any doubts about sea sickness, we suggest that you buy sea sickness pills to take with you. Please contact us by for the best ones on the market. They are also available on board. During the safety briefing the skipper will provide more information about sea sickness and how to prevent it, so don’t worry.

Do I need a passport, ID or visa to join the cruise?

For European citizens a valid ID card is enough. No visa is necessary. If you are non-EU, please contact us well before departure to ensure that you comply with regulations. It is your responsibility to make sure that you  have the necessary travel documents with you.

On Board

How strict are the times in the schedule?

All cruises have listed time schedules. Due to the nature of sailing, the skipper reserves the right to change course from any particular itinerary for any reason especially where it is deemed necessary in the interests of health and or safety of our passengers. In case you think you might miss the departure time prior (e.g. delayed flight) or during the cruise, please contact the skipper immediately to discuss possibilities.

What language is used on board?

The skipper speaks fluent Dutch, German and English.

Is smoking allowed on board?

Smoking is only allowed on the leeward side of the front deck (weather permitting). Smoking is forbidden on the aft deck and inside. Possession and use of any non-medicinal drugs is also strictly forbidden.

What's on the menu?

All meals on board are based on the local Mediterranean cuisine. We try to use only fresh, local and organic ingredients, depending on availability at local markets. If you are vegetarian, great. We have delicious, authentic dishes for you. If you are vegan or have any allergies or intolerances, please inform us in advance us by email as we need to plan ahead.

How about pictures taken during the cruise?

Please note we use real people on real sailing holidays for any images we may have on our brochures, advertising materials, promotional materials and general publicity. If a photographer or another employee is taking photographs or video and you have an objection to these being used by us in this manner please make your objection known at the time.

What happens when there is a complaint against you?

Our core values include safety first for the guests, crew and ship and respect for nature and people. A responsible level of behavior and consideration is therefore expected while you are on board the New Horizons and you must comply with the yacht rules and regulations. You will be liable for any damage or loss caused by you or by persons in your party while on board. If you are deemed to be, in our reasonable opinion, behaving in a manner which is likely to cause danger or distress to any third party or property, we are entitled to terminate our agreement with those involved without notice or refund. The skipper also has the right to remove you from the vessel with no further responsibilities towards you.

What do you do when you have a complaint?

We will always aim to provide you with the best cruise possible, but if a problem occurs you must report it to the skipper, who will try to resolve it on the spot. Failure to adhere to the above will deprive us of the opportunity to investigate and rectify your complaint while you were on your cruise and may result in your claim for compensation being lost.

How about liability?

We will fulfill its contractual obligations with you using reasonable skill and care. Unless we breach the booking agreement, the cruises are at the customer’s own risk. You will be responsible for all claims, liabilities, damages, costs and expenses suffered or incurred as a result of your breach or default in the discharge of your obligations.

We will not be liable to you in any way for any damages, loss, expense, injury, illness or death if your claim resulted from:

  • Any act, omission or failure by any third party;
  • Any act, omission or failure by any employee(s), if they were or were not acting in the course of their employment carrying out the duties they were contracted to do with us;
  • Any incorrect information supplied by you or a party on your booking form;
  • Any of our emails being blocked by web filters or firewalls;
  • Any act, omission or failure by any of our supplier(s);
  • Any act, omission or failure of a third party not connected with the provision of your holiday and that were unforeseeable or unavoidable;
  • Any act that may result in ‘Force majeure’

Our maximum liability for any successful claim will not exceed the price of your holiday, less any insurance claim.
